MEBUST® 1507S298
IMPACT MODIFIERS
FOR ENGINEERING RESINS
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Mebust® 1507S298 series impact modifiers are based
on novel acrylic chemistry designed to impart excellent ambient
and cold temperature impact to PBT, PC and blends. The first
all acrylic impact modifiers of their kind, Mebust®
1507S298 allows
processors to achieve lower temperature performance than previously
attainable with conventional weatherable acrylic modifiers.
Mebust® 1507S298, a functionalized version, can be used
to formulate polyesters and polyester blends for maximum impact,
weatherability, viscosity control and physical properties.
PRODUCT BENEFITS
Excellent Weatherability– Mebust® 1507S298 MBS impact
modifiers provide the excellent weatherability acrylics are
known for, opening the door for use in applications that demand
good color hold and retention of physical properties on exposure
to the
elements. This enabling technology is especially suited for
mold-in color applications.
Superior Low Temperature Impact—The
low Tg core of Mebust® 1507S298 enables it to be used
in low temperature applications, it can be used to create
products which can withstand -40° to -50° C and still
remain ductile.
Good Dispersion and Viscosity Control—Mebust®
1507S298 can be used alone or with other additives to allow
adjustment of polymer viscosity and impact modifier dispersion
to give optimum processability and impact values in various
polyester applications.
Balanced Property Control—Mebust®
1507S298 impact modifiers have minimal effect on other polymer
properties.
SUGGESTIONS FOR USE
Mebust® 1507S298 series impact modifiers are recommended
for use in PBT, P an polyester blends where superior low temperature
impact and weatherability are required. As an enabling technology,
Mebust® 1507S298 MBS is targeted for use in automotive
applications, lawn and garden equipment, and recreational
vehicles where weatherability and good low temperature impact
are important.

PERFORMANCE TESTING – POLYBUTYLENE TEREPHTHALATE
Mebust® 1507S298 modifiers get their excellent low temperature
performance from a rubber core which has a Tg lower than other
commercial acrylics. The following comparative properties
graph demonstrates the performance of Mebust® 1507S298
versus a typical MBS impact modifier in polybutylene terephthalate.

Izod Impact Strength versus Mebust® 1507S298 Loading
– Mebust® 1507S298 modifiers bring good low temperature
impact to PBT. The following graph demonstrates how the loading
of Mebust® 1507S298 can improve the low temperature impact
significantly.

Mebust® 1507S298 modifiers have the excellent weatherability
of an acrylic. The following graph shows the weathering performance
of Mebust® 1507S298 in PBT in a Xenon weather-o-meter
using SAE J1885.
Heat Aging @ 135oC - Impact Retention

Mebust® 1507S298 exhibits good dispersion and interfacial
adhesion which leads to maximized impact. The following AFM
(atomic force microscopy) picture (in phase mode) shows the
excellent dispersion of Mebust® 1507S298 in polybutylene
terephthalate.

Polycarbonate Heat Aging -10% loading of Mebust®
1507S298 versus
competitor’s MBS - the following graph illustrates the
excellent impact retention that Mebust® 1507S298
brings to polycarbonate,
even at low use levels.
Heat Aging @ 135oC - Impact
Retention

Even at use levels as low as Mebust® 1507S298 modifiers
have been shown to contribute to outstanding low temperature
impact while having a minimum affect on physical properties.
